Founded in 2022 - The Island City Youth team is composed of youth paddlers ages 12-18. They learn dragon boating technique, build strength and endurance, and train to be competitive
This team of dedicated youth athletes won GOLD against adult community teams at the Minocqua Festival!

Founded in 2023: The expansion of the Island City Dragon Boat Club to include adult male paddlers gave rise to a great first season.
Already adding power to a gold medal mixed team, we know our male paddlers will make their own mark as a part of the fiercest dragon boat club in the Midwest!
Island City Dragon Boat Club was founded to bring competitive dragon boat racing to the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
We believe in hard work.
We believe paddling technique can always be improved.
We believe teamwork is our strength.
We believe that racing is where we test ourselves!
We want to give everyone the opportunity to feel the power and rush of a synchronized dragon boat team.
Our mission is to bring the sport of dragon boating to anyone in the Northwoods who wants to be part of our competitive journey.
Hello from Minocqua and the Island City Dragon Boat Club! Dragon what? Let us introduce ourselves. Since our club was formed in 2017, we have been paddling miles around the Minocqua Chain, a team of multi-generational women synchronizing together, working in unison to propel essentially a 40’ canoe. You may have spotted us from your boat, or while driving on 51 during our tri-weekly practices. We’re already preparing to compete in the 2023 US Nationals to defend our Gold Metal in the 200 M event. Our club is growing from 32 members to nearly 50; while we represent a small town, we have big goals!
In July 2022, our ICDB team competed in the Club Crew World Championships in Sarasota, FL. We proudly represented the USA, setting team records in all events. 2022 also saw our purpose expand from an entirely women's club to form a Youth Team. The Island City Dragonlings are aged 12-18 and they finished third at the Minocqua Dragon Boat Race held at Torpy Park in August. Our women’s team took first in both events at the Minocqua Festival (the first time since its inception) and second at the Lake Hernando, FL Festival. We are fiercely focused and dedicated to our sport!
We are also a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing world-class dragon boating, right here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. We believe in teamwork, dedication, and having fun on the water. Beautiful Lake Minocqua serves as our training ground and our club is happy to welcome all area paddlers, ages 18 and up.
On-the-Water training begins mid-May and runs through mid-September.
Off-Water training continues for the rest of the year. Members are expected to perform fit-tests on a regular basis and submit results to the head coach.
