Island City Dragon Boat Club is a competitive dragon boat team dedicated to promoting dragon boating in the northwoods. We have a women's team, youth team and mixed team - so anyone ages 12 and up are welcome to join us!
And as a registered non-profit we are dedicated to giving back to the community that supports us. We volunteer at several events around town and offer scholarship opportunities for some of our youth paddlers.
We believe dragon boating is for everyone - come see what we're about today!
There are many ways to get involved with Island City Dragon Boat Club, such as attending practices, becoming a member, volunteering, donating, or attending our races. We are developing official "Support Crew" gear so stay tuned!
If you are interested in paddling with us, fill out the New Paddler Interest Form and we will let you know how to find us on the water starting with our first practices in May.
Absolutely! We have a 'beginner boat' practice early in our training season just to get people comfortable with the commands, safety, and basics of technique. We all started as beginners at one point! Plus you can come to three practices for free just to try it out (we know you'll love it!)
Yes! We have several members who paddle and race with us in the summer then return "home" the rest of the year.
We practice on beautiful Lake Minocqua. You can find us gathering before practice where our boat is docked - at Your Boat Club in Minocqua (behind BJ's Sports, down the stairs to water level).
There is public parking at Torpy Park and at the public lot directly north of the tennis courts at Torpy park.
See the map below for more information.
Every new paddler gets THREE free practices to try it out before annual dues are collected.
Annual dues are listed below and are based on the number of practices with our head coach. Race fees, travel expenses and jerseys are additional expenses and covered by each paddler.
If you're ready to hop in the boat, we have a spot for you in our Beginner Boat practices.
To sign up for the Beginner Boat practices, first fill out the New Paddler Interest Form and our Team Manager will send you all the information you need to know for your first successful Dragon Boat practice!
Saturdays starting in June - 6:30am - 7:30am
Learn everything from boat safety, to dragon boat paddling technique, to how to work as a team.
After your three free practices you'll register as an official member of the Club.
Our Team Manager will send you a link and instructions to register for the Club team via TeamSnap.
Membership Registration includes:
Once you've attended a few Beginner Boat sessions and are comfortable with boat safety and basic paddling technique, you'll be ready to join our Club Team practices!
The Head Coach will let you know when you're ready to join these practices.
(See Schedule above)
We can't wait to see you on the water!!
Every new paddler has up to 3 practices to decide if they want to join the team before dues are required.
Once you have been to a Beginner Boat practice, a coach or team manager will send you directions and a link to our club's TeamSnap
These are from the 2024 season. Updated versions of the Member Handbook, and Boat Safety coming soon.
