Our organization is dedicated to building a world-class dragon boat club right here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Be a part of the action and join us today!
Please reach us at islandcitydragonboatclub@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Island City Dragon Boat Club is a competitive dragon boat team dedicated to promoting dragon boating in the northwoods. We have a women's team, youth team and mixed team - so anyone ages 12 and up are welcome to join us!
And as a registered non-profit we are dedicated to giving back to the community that supports us. We volunteer at several events around town and offer scholarship opportunities for some of our youth paddlers.
We believe dragon boating is for everyone - come see what we're about today!
There are many ways to get involved with Island City Dragon Boat Club, such as attending practices, becoming a member, volunteering, donating, or attending our races. We are developing official "Support Crew" gear so stay tuned!
If you are interested in paddling with us, fill out the New Paddler Interest Form and we will let you know how to find us on the water starting with our first practices in May.
Absolutely! We have a 'beginner boat' practice early in our training season just to get people comfortable with the commands, safety, and basics of technique. We all started as beginners at one point! Plus you can come to three practices for free just to try it out (we know you'll love it!)
Yes! We have several members who paddle and race with us in the summer then return "home" the rest of the year.
We practice on beautiful Lake Minocqua. You can find us gathering before practice where our boat is docked - at Your Boat Club in Minocqua (behind BJ's Sports, down the stairs to water level).
There is public parking at Torpy Park and at the public lot directly north of the tennis courts at Torpy park.
See the map below for more information.
Every new paddler gets THREE free practices to try it out before annual dues are collected.
Annual dues are listed below and are based on the number of practices with our head coach. Race fees, travel expenses and jerseys are additional expenses and covered by each paddler.
Every new paddler has up to 3 practices to decide if they want to join the team before dues are required. Annual due payment expected by the 4th practice.
Dragon boating is the ultimate team sport! It is a combination of strength, endurance, rhythm, and following the pace set by the front stroke position. It is fast-paced and thrilling to feel the boat lift out of the water and accelerate!
Our club uses TeamSnap for its communication platform. You can access it on your computer, but once you've joined the team be sure to download the app!
If you're ready to get involved with us please sign up for beginner practices and we'll see you on the water!
If you've already paddled with us and are ready to join the team - complete the 2024 Member Registration! (Please note, this process will take some time to review forms and pay dues, it can be easier on the computer than your phone.)

All paddlers must sign up for each practice they plan to attend via TeamSnap - our registration platform. Download the app on your phone or connect via laptop.
The team meets on the dock behind BJ's on US 51 in Minocqua, WI.
All paddlers are required to sign a waiver prior to getting on the boat and have a PFD (life jacket - typically the waist/belt style). Please also wear clothing suitable for working out and getting wet -- Dragon Boating is a water sport!
